Midwest Orthopedics at RUSH (MOR) is a leading orthopedic care provider and an integral part of RUSH University Medical Center in Chicago. Specializing in joint replacement, sports medicine, spine care, and other musculoskeletal treatments, MOR is recognized for its team of highly skilled physicians, innovative treatments, and cutting-edge research.

Why Did We Start the Project?

The Challenge

MOR faced significant challenges in managing and updating its website. The existing CMS, Drupal, was rigid and inefficient, making even minor adjustments, such as spacing and alignment changes, a time-consuming and frustrating process. These limitations negatively impacted both the user experience and site performance, restricting the scalability and flexibility required for growth. Seeking a more intuitive and adaptable solution, MOR came to Marcel Digital to provide the expertise and support necessary to enhance its website’s functionality and empower its marketing team.

What's Going On?

The Analysis

Following an in-depth assessment of MOR’s challenges, Marcel Digital identified multiple areas for improvement. The existing CMS’s lack of flexibility hindered efficient content management, creating obstacles for MOR’s marketing efforts. To address these issues, Marcel Digital recommended migrating to Umbraco, a scalable and user-friendly CMS designed to provide greater adaptability, streamline content updates, and eliminate the constraints imposed by the previous system.

The Solution

Marcel Digital collaborated closely with the team at MOR and the branding and design team at The Motion Agency to create a comprehensive strategy for the new website. Multiple planning sessions were conducted with both teams to ensure alignment on project objectives and responsibilities. Early engagement with the MOR team allowed for a seamless transition to the new site by providing comprehensive training on Umbraco’s capabilities. 

To optimize content management, Marcel Digital developed structured templates for key pages, such as locations, physicians, and services, ensuring consistency and ease of use, and a dedicated content management lead oversaw the migration process, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

From a development perspective, significant enhancements were made to the content editing experience. The introduction of a block grid editor provided greater flexibility in structuring content, while an interior page preview feature enabled content editors to visualize changes in real time before publication. Additionally, content migration was streamlined through automation, reducing manual workload and enhancing data accuracy. Pre-built templates for providers and locations facilitated a more structured and efficient content management process.

What Happened After Launch?

The Results

The improvements delivered by Marcel Digital and The Motion Agency resulted in a transformative impact on MOR’s website. The new CMS empowered the marketing team to manage content updates independently with greater efficiency and ease. The structured templates ensured a cohesive and professional presentation of information, while automated content migration reduced time and costs associated with manual data entry. Website performance significantly improved, enhancing user experience for both visitors and internal stakeholders. The block grid editor provided increased creative control, enabling the development of engaging, dynamic pages. 

By transitioning to Umbraco, MOR now benefits from a scalable, high-performing website that aligns with its long-term strategic goals and supports ongoing digital growth.
