Hey there! Kyle here at Marcel Digital.
On November 14th, 2024, Umbraco 15 is launching—delivering a platform that’s bigger, faster, and more powerful than ever before.
Umbraco 15 introduces a handful of new features that are sure to be great additions to an already great CMS. The upgrade is part of Umbraco’s commitment to provide regular updates aligned with .NET framework updates.
One of the biggest adjustments to Umbraco 15 is the addition of a new rich text editor based on a technology called TipTap. TipTap will replace TinyMCE as the foundation for the rich text editor, bringing with it a lot of flexibility and new advantages, particularly in handling copy-pasting from applications like Microsoft Word or Google Docs. But don’t fret. If you want to stick with TinyMCE you’ll be able to add it back in.
Umbraco 15 will also introduce a new user type, the API user, to streamline client credential configuration for seamless use of the management API in machine-to-machine scenarios. API users, unlike standard users, do not need passwords and cannot access the Backoffice. However, they can still interact with the Management API and are assigned to user groups, following the same permission structure as regular users.
There are also a handful of experimental features currently being tested that users will have access to upon release.
A new lazy-loaded content system will improve performance for large sites by loading only essential content during startup and caching additional content on demand, reducing memory usage and speeding up boot times. Additionally, structural data will no longer be stored in the published content cache, further optimizing efficiency.
Umbraco 15 might also introduce block-level variation, allowing editors of multilingual websites to maintain consistent content structures across languages while easily customizing specific content without having to customize full pages for different languages.
This latest version of Umbraco will be faster and more efficient than any other previous version.
